Using a LUT to spruce up an image

A LUT stands for “look up table.” It’s basically an efficient way for a program to modify the colors of an image to create a distinct “look” or “style.” It’s sort of like an Instagram filter. However, a LUT is usually more powerful and better looking than Instagram filters. They’re used a lot in the film industry to make things look cinematic or dramatic.

I opened up Luminar and used a LUT called Long Beach. It originally caught my eye because Long Beach, CA is one of the places I grew up. When I previewed it, I thought it went really well with the Fall colors of my photo.

You can find a good LUT almost anywhere and they’re often either cheap or even free.
